[after Yi City and the second time Wei Wuxian gets Lan Wangji drunk, it takes about a day for them to reach the Garden of Annual blossoms. this curious incident takes place in the space of that day.

outside of appeasing the corpse pieces they've been collecting each night, it's not uncommon for Lan Wangji to take the time to practice on the guqin. he doesn't play entire songs, since he's not trying to interact with any spirits at the moment, but safely broken-up sections of Inquiry and Empathy (was Empathy always a musical technique? it is in this timeline, shut up) and the other songs he uses for battle hum through the walls of the rest stop they've paused at on the road.

it's partway through a passage of Empathy that there's a notable shriek of strings, and then silence; when Wei Wuxian goes to check, he'll find Lan Wangji half-collapsed over the instrument, his breathing harsh and a strange fluctuation of energy around him.

a qi deviation...? oh no.]

[being as clingy as possible and wrapping his arms and legs around Lan Wangji like a very horny koala. he kisses back, only pulling away to nibble at Lan Wangji's lip]

In fact, I think it's safe to say that you've been far too nice to me this whole time.

[there's not exactly a surface for Lan Wangji to lean comfortably back against, but he sits as perfectly straight as always even with all of Wei Wuxian's weight on him, rock-solid and hot-skinned, strong hands sliding down his back to cup his ass]

...frustration...is not here anymore.

[he shifts, limbs adjusting to get more comfortable. he's restless and impatient in the way his toes curl and just barely skim along Lan Wangji's back; in the way his arms loosen and tighten like touching burns but he can't get enough of it; in the way that he leans in to kiss and just as quickly leans back to get out a thought that just popped into his head]

Not that I mind you being nice to me. But I did only mean to fix things in here, not change them all around. I can probably put things back the way I found them if that's better.

[he pulls Wei Wuxian achingly close, though, and his heart is pounding, and giving the lie to that calm face. maybe he's not being rough, but certainly he wants him with everything he has, and there's an audible hitch of effort in his voice when he says]

[CLINGS TIGHTER and shakes his head]

That would take too long! No way, you're not making me move. I'm perfectly happy right here.

[that's all the encouragement he needs, though; it's only a few seconds of listening to the soft pop of the bottle's stopper and the faint sound of Lan Wangji dipping his fingers in before one of those fingers is finally sliding into Wei Wuxian, Lan Wangji's other hand gripping his hip and holding him still for it. careful.]

[even expecting it, he sucks in a surprised breath and clenches up. he buries his face in the crook of Lan Wangji's neck and relaxes after a long exhale]

That's cold, Lan Zhan. You had better warm me up.

[kisses the top of Wei Wuxian's head and waits until he relaxes to move again, finger slow and exploring inside him, his other hand moving to spread broad and hot over the small of his back. the chill of the oil doesn't last long, certainly.]

[he doesn't move for a little bit, getting used to the feeling and trying to stay relaxed. before he's completely used to it, though, he starts moving again, nibbling and sucking along Lan Wangji's neck]

[that gets a soft indrawn breath out of Lan Wangji, and he tilts his head a little to allow him better access. doesn’t let it distract him from what he’s doing, though, finger moving gently in Wei Wuxian still, curving deeper until it brushes the right spot...]

[a NOISE escapes him, loud and surprised as his whole body jerks forward. a second later his fingers tangle into Lan Wangji's hair and he gives a little yank]

D-do that again.

[pleased...pauses a moment to consider, then pulls him close altogether with one arm, rubbing at that spot in long slow strokes, a sustained note of pleasure]

[TRUE TO CHARACTER, he gets very, very noisy very, very quickly. he doesn't even try to behave himself; every stroke gets a long moan to spill from his mouth, hips bucking with every jolt of pleasure, hands constantly roaming to find purchase.]

[Lan Wangji's eyes are fixed on him, burning molten gold, his arm a stable anchor around Wei Wuxian's body no matter how he squirms and touches back, his breathing deep and tightly controlled, the deep red flush spreading up his neck. he's careful, still; he waits until it's easy to see Wei Wuxian's ready for it before adding a second finger to start really stretching him. his own arousal's a low and constant throb, restrained for now]

[restraint isn't a word that Wei Wuxian uses often, but he tries not to get too ahead of himself. it would, frankly, be really embarrassing to finish early, right? so he adjusts again when the second finger goes in and contains his noises in favor of kissing up along Lan Wangji's neck and babbling]

Say, Lan Zhan, Lan Wangji, could it be that you've done this sort of thing before? I'm a little curious as to how you know what to do! For you to have the upper hand in this, of all things, when you were so embarrassed over a single book of artwork all those years ago...Don't tell me that my words had an impact on you?
